The Creative Promise Award for Student Excellence is given once a year by the Surface Design Association to recognize excellence in a body of work by two outstanding students, one undergraduate and one graduate. Each student is awarded $750, which may be applied to tuition, materials, equipment, educational travel, or any other expenses related to professional development. In addition, the winner’s work will be featured in a future issue of the Surface Design Journal.

Purpose
The purpose of the award is to recognize the innovative work of surface design students.

Eligibility
The Creative Promise Award for Student Excellence is presented to two students, one undergraduate and one graduate, enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in the fiber field at the time of application (spring term). The students must be current SDA members.

Stipulations
The award is based on artistic and technical merit, quality of design, and professional presentation. Work must be professionally mounted, photographed and presented.
• All application materials will be retained and may be used at the discretion of SDA.
• Within one year of receiving the award, a written report on the use of the money is to be sent to the SDA Awards and Grant Administrator.
• Updated member profile, headshot and at least one image of his/her artwork should be loaded on the SDA website.

Application Process
Applicants must submit complete information via email to the SDA Grant and Award Administrator.
